How does Sedation Dentistry work?
Each individual needs a different level of sedation. For your comfort we offer:
- Oral Pill Sedation for light to moderate dental treatment. Most patients have no memory of the dental procedure; cost and administration is relatively easy. Instead of “just a little pill, more appropriate and effective multi-drug and multi-dose regiments can be used.
- “Pre-Sedation” uses oral sedative medication for patients that are so apprehensive that they cannot sleep the night before treatment, or are too apprehensive of the time period prior to starting in-office sedation.
- Intravenous I.V. Sedation for moderate to extensive dental treatment. With I.V. sedation Dr. Gibbs is able to carefully control the amount of sedation to the patient’s needs resulting in superior pain and comfort control.
We suggest that patients be very wary of offices which promise the option of sedation “with just a little pill.” Many times we have a patient start with the oral pill sedation and if they are not sufficiently comfortable switch to the IV sedation. Less than 2% of dentists in Illinois are licensed to perform “true” titrated sedation due to stringent requirements. Dentists who promise sedation without the option of full IV sedation may not be able to deliver the amnesia and comfort that we find many patients are seeking.
Our Promise to You We Will Never Start An Appointment Unless You Are Completely Comfortable!
